When going to work in a dental office for the first time, it is always important to be up-to-date on dental hygiene issues and technology.
General Supervision – This changed from 7 months to 10 months.
Local Anesthesia – As of April 16, 2008, dental hygienists can now administer local anesthesia upon completion of a course. I would encourage you to visit the Virginia Board of Dentistry website to ensure the course you take meets the requirements needed.
Malpractice – Be sure to cover yourself and carry your own insurance. For less than $100 a year you can be protected.
Digital Radiographs – It's important to take the time to learn how to take and develop digital radiographs.
Computer technology – Many offices now use computers in the dental hygiene operatory. Take the time to learn the technology because you will see it in other offices as well.
